| Finding silence grew out of a range of sources, from literary
notions of love to common, human feelings of attraction, desire, confusion, anger and
loss. The poems juggle notions of medieval courtly romance, maternal pride, love at first
sight, contractual relationships, thwarted passion and unrequited feelings in an account
of a meeting between two people. Finding Silence moves towards solution and resolution in the watery undercurrents and emotional ebb and flow of a single encounter. - Tanya Gupta, librettist Premiered on 28 June 1997 by Crouch End Festival Chorus,

| Incandescence
is a percussion concerto by young Turk, Joby Talbot. Joby is that bloke in
prospering indie band The divine comedy who isnt Neil Hannon. However, he is
also a successful composer of concert music. (The search for an adjective is defeating -
not classical for sure.) His music is characterised by its accessibility and
excitement; Joby seems to have an increasingly rare gift of composing music which is
dynamic, driving forward excitingly, and of being capable of handling contrasting tempi
and moods with assurance. Jobys music appears on my website through my enthusiasm for it and because I offer, for select clients only, a music copying service using my Sibelius computer system. Having set Jobys Finding silence - a Crouch End Festival Chorus commission - I went on to set Incandescence. Incandescence was premiered on 20 June 1998 by Julian
